What is the name for the science or study of plants?

This field of science presupposes researches on plants' structure, conditions of their existence, evolutionary development and origin.

The aims of ancient Botany were mostly based upon the necessity to cultivate new kinds of crops. The cause for this necessity was in a low yield of wild plants. That's why botanists were fully involved into the process of increasing the level of crop's prolificacy.

At present, Botany is also oriented towards the cultivation of new kinds of plants that will be not only the source of food but also a material for creating new medcine for humans and animals.

Biology is the study of living things. Living things are divided into two major classes - plants and animals. This is why Biology has two main branches; 1) Zoology(study of animals) 2) Botany( study of plants) After these two, you can now see other branches like microbiology, ecology, physiology,anatomy, genetics, etc.

More than that...botany is not a study for food and medicine, but also biofuel, to replace gas fuel;. materials that are sustainable, for building, including roads(I think);. transportable housing, even propulsion for planes. Botany hasn't even truly begun to be utilized, for all the possibilities plants might hold, for humans,animals, and the Earth herself.
