The name of Long John Silver's parrot in the novel "Treasure Island" is Captain Flint. The captain was said to have feared John Silver, the ship's quartermaster. Silver would call his parrot "Captain Flint" in mockery of the real captain.

"Treasure Island" (originally "The Sea Cook: A Story for Boys") is an adventure novel (1881-1882) by Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson. It's a tale of buccaneers and buried gold. Captain Flint is a fictional character in the book. Within this book, Flint, whose first name is not given, was the captain of the pirate ship, The Walrus, which accumulated an enormous amount of captured treasure. Flint and six members of his crew bury the plunder on an island located somewhere in the Caribbean Sea. Flint then murders his six assistants, leaving the corpse of one, Allardyce, with its arms outstretched in the direction of the buried treasure.

The location of the treasure is marked by Flint on a map and entrusted to his first mate William "Billy" Bones. The map later falls into the hands of the protagonist of the novel, Jim Hawkins.
