Bette Davis and Katherine Hepburn both received Best Actress Oscar nominations for playing a person named Jane Hudson. Bette Davis played Hudson in the 1962 American film, "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?" It is a psychological thriller-horror. In the 1955 American/British romance film: Summertime (released in the UK as Summer Madness), Katherine Hepburn played Jane Hudson.

Davis is depicted an aging actress who holds her paraplegic sister (Joan Crawford as Blanche Hudson) captive in an old Hollywood mansion. Blanche is a virtual prisoner in the house; she is completely dependent on her bitter alcoholic sister who takes sadistic pleasure in tormenting her. As Jane learns that Blanche plans to sell the house, her behavior becomes increasingly erratic (dangerous). Jane devises a plan to resurrect her ancient childhood vaudeville act with help from mama's boy Edwin Flagg. The sisters become desperate. As Jane is slipping into full blown madness, events take a macabre and murderous turn.

Katharine Hepburn as Jane Hudson in Summertime is a “fancy secretary” from Akron. She arrives in Venice on her first trip to Europe. She has an American spinster’s dream of romance that finally becomes a bittersweet reality when she meets a handsome married Italian man. Hepburn gives a sensitive portrayal of a lonely heroine. She wants desperately to get it right, to respond and appreciate life. Trembling, taking it all in, she’s seduced, ravished even, before she finds an answer.
