The American triple crown is three classic horse races run in the spring for thoroughbred three-year-olds. The first leg is the Kentucky Derby, run at Churchill Downs in Kentucky on the first Saturday of May. The second leg is the Preakness Stakes, which is run two weeks later at Pimlico in Maryland. The third and final race is the Belmont Stakes, which is run in New York three weeks after the Preakness.

Omaha was an American racehorse that was foaled at Claiborne Stud in 1932. He is the first crop from his sire Gallant Fox. Omaha is the only triple crown winner that is a son of a triple crown winner. Gallant Fox won the triple crown in 1930. Omaha was out of the mare Flambino. He was owned by William Woodward of Belair Stud and was trained by "Sunny" Jim Fitzsimmons. The jockey that rode Omaha was William "Smoky" Saunders.

Omaha went on to equal Man o' War's record for a mile and an eighth and was sent to race in England as a four-year-old to race successfully.

Omaha was retired to stud for a few seasons at the Jockey Club Stallion Station in New York but was a failure at stud. He was given to a group of breeders in Omaha, Nebraska, where he died on April 24, 1959.
