The television show, Doctor Who, centers on a Timelord, named The Doctor, who travels through time and space in a 1960s police box called the TARDIS, which stands for Time and Relative Dimension In Space. It was first shown on British TV in 1963, and now Doctor Who has become a somewhat cultural phenomenon worldwide.

As with any science fiction marvel, there comes a fair share of villains and monsters. Star Trek is most famous for the Klingons, Star Wars has the Empire, and Doctor Who has the Daleks. Mad genius, Davros, a major enemy of the series' protagonist, the Doctor, is the creator of the Doctor's deadliest enemies, the Daleks.

The Daleks are viewed as important and popular villains. They have always been with the series. When their creator, Davros, is first mentioned, it is noted that he comes from the planet Skaro, whose people, the Kaleds, were engaged in a bitter thousand-year war of attrition with their enemies, the Thals. He is a person who is clever, horribly scarred and disabled.

The Welsh screenwriter and novelist, Terry Nation, created Davros and the Daleks to be fearsome entities. His aim was to create very angry and hateful monsters. They will believe that their race is the most superior. Also, these fiction villains (Daleks) will have no emotions (humanity). The Daleks are to be cold and ruthless. They will have a sense of pride (which is ironic). They will only worship themselves. Will they end up being the most superior race in the universe?
