What is the name of the town in which "It's a Wonderful Life" takes place?
On Christmas Eve 1945 in the 1946 film "It's a Wonderful Life", in Bedford Falls, New York, George Bailey (James Stewart) contemplates suicide. In this case, the town of Bedford Falls is a fictional one. It has been stated that film director Frank Capra was inspired by Seneca Falls in upstate New York, which is considered a dead ringer for Bedford Falls. No other town in New York has as many similarities to the town in "It's A Wonderful Life" as does Seneca Falls.
The film is a story about George Bailey and his family. In the beginning, George has so many personal problems that he is thinking about ending it all, and it's Christmas. When angels are talking about George, his life is presented in flashbacks in the place that he truly loves.
As George is about to jump from a bridge, he ends up rescuing Clarence. Clarence is a guardian angel who has been assigned to George. The angel ends up showing George what his town, Bedford Falls, NY, would have looked like if it hadn't been for all the good deeds that George provided over the years to make the town what it is.
