What is the name of this Norman Rockwell painting that appeared on a cover of 'The Saturday Evening Post'?
Born in New York City in 1894, Norman Rockwell always wanted to be an artist. At age 14, Rockwell enrolled in art classes at The New York School of Art (formerly The Chase School of Art). He would later become most famous for the cover illustrations of everyday life he created for 'The Saturday Evening Post' magazine over nearly five decades.
Norman Rockwell's "The Runaway" appeared on the cover of 'The Saturday Evening Post' published September 20, 1958. This is a timeless favorite of Rockwell collectors, a true classic for the ages. This classic painting depicts a policeman and a little boy sharing the lunch counter at a diner.
In 1973, Rockwell established a trust to preserve his artistic legacy by placing his works in the custodianship of the Old Corner House Stockbridge Historical Society, later to become Norman Rockwell Museum at Stockbridge, Massachusetts. He died peacefully at his home in Stockbridge on November 8, 1978, at the age of 84.
The original oil on canvas painting "The Runaway", 35.75 inches by 33.5 inches or 91 by 90 cm, is now part of the collection of the Norman Rockwell Museum.
