Poland's official name is the Republic of Poland (Polish Rzeczpospolita Polska). It is a state in Eastern (Central) Europe. It arose through the withdrawal of Germanic tribes and the subsequent migrations into the area of Slavic people. These people were farmers growing crops. These people originally formed tribal organisations. The Polans (meaning people of the field) became a dominant force and united the tribes, therefore the name republic. The tribes were converted to Christianity under Duke Mieszko I in 966. This event is considered to be the founding of Poland

The current population, according to the results of the 2012 census, is more than 38.5 million people, the territory is 312,679 km². It occupies the 34th place in the world in terms of population and the 69th in the territory. It's capital is Warsaw.
