What is the only continent on Earth without an active volcano?
Australia is a very old continent with many volcanoes, all of which are now dormant or extinct. So that would mean that it is the only continent without any active volcanoes. However, volcanic rocks are numerous with some turning up to be as old as two billion years when subjected to carbon dating tests. Even Antarctica has active volcanoes, with the most recent eruption occurring in 2012.

I have never heard of an active volcano in Australia, so I chose it. I have always lucked out on multiple choice questions, even in college. Don't get me wrong, I studied & was a good student, but having LUCK on the guesses made a huge diff!

Grace Vissirini, you are so incorrect.
South American is a separate continent from North America. Central is part of South America.
North America, South America, Asia, African, Europe, Australia and Antarctica are our continents.im surprised someone didn't call you on that error!

Steven Joseph Courts, Aus is considered a continent as we are “a large, continuous, distinct landmass, preferably, separated by a vast expanse of water”. Thus, we are the smallest continent, but by definition, definitely one. A continent is basically a huge island, which we are, just a million miles from everyone else lol

Anthony Griffin, That Region of this part of the world is known as Australasia, which includes New Zealand, Christmas Island, Norfolk Islands all are part of Australasia, NZ has plenty of Volcanoes, some active, some extinct, some just quietly lying dormant for now, all over NZ

Australia is not a continent . It is a country on the continent of Australasia.

Interesting, when I researched this a year or so ago. Geo Australia had not declared all the volcanoes as extinct. In addition there are still two active volcanoes on two islands nearby. Howe Island? and one other (I can't remember their names). I would consider Geo Australia the most reliable of sources.

Actually as an Australian, I can assure you, Australia is a continent and we definitely don’t have an active volcano. Hug Br,

Well, the Aussies have plenty of other things in their natural areas to make life dangerous.

Donna Smyth, you are incorrect. Australia is both a continent and a country. It is part of the "geographic region" of Oceania, which, by definition, is not actually a continent.

Christopher J Voce, doesn’t share a continental shelf, never geologically part of Australia. They once had the option of becoming an Australian state as, along with Norfolk Island, they had been part of the old NSW colony. Other Australian territories not part of the continent include Christmas Island and Australian Antarctic Territory; historically PNG was also an Australian territory prior to independence in 1975

Ok I may be wrong about NZ; although we were tought at school that NZ was part of Australasia, however Papua New Guinea is unequivocally part of the continent of Australia, so the question is still quite wrong!
