The prize for being the winner of the Wife-Carrying World Championships in Finland is the wife's weight in beer. To determine the amount of the prize, the team mate who was carried sits on a teeter-totter while beer is placed on the opposite end of the teeter-totter until the same weight is established.

Wife Carrying World Championships have been held annually in Sonkajärvi, Finland, since 1992. Traditionally a wife would be carried, but now the field has been opened to everyone. Entrants must be over 17 years of age. The teammate being carried must weigh at least 49 kilograms (108.27 pounds), or they are required to carry a rucksack with a weight to make the difference. One team member carries the other on their back while running through two wet, and two dry obstacle courses totalling 235.5 metres (257.55 yards). The only equipment that is permitted is a helmet for the teammate being carried, and a belt for the runner. The couple who completes the race in the shortest time is the winner of the race, and the winner of beer weighing 49 kilograms or more.

Australia has held their own wife-carrying races since 2005. The United States, Hong Kong, Estonia, and the United Kingdom have also started hosting their own wife-carrying races.
