What is the state sport of Maryland?
Maryland designated jousting as the official sport in 1962. Jousting tournaments have been held in Maryland since early colonial times and became increasingly popular after the Civil War.
Retaining the pageantry and customs of medieval tournaments, modern competitors are called "knights" or "maids," and many dress in colorful costumes. Men, women and children compete equally with skill and horsemanship determining the class.

Since there are two state sports in Maryland, with jousting as the official state individual sport and lacrosse as the state official team sport, they should have been listed together, or identified as individual sport or team sport.

Answer needs to be updated to Lacrosse unless some other states also make a distinction between official state sport and official team sport. Maybe they do.

Granted I have only lived in Maryland for about 7 years, but in that time I have never seen the sport of jousting addressed. It hasn’t been covered in any form of sports news. Lacrosse and field hockey have, but not jousting. This is news to me.
