What is the state sport of Wyoming?
Rodeo was adopted as the official sport of Wyoming in 2003. Rodeo is very popular in the state, and for the number of reason it is officially considered the main sport of the state. For example, Casper, Wyoming has been hosting the College National Finals Rodeo since 2001. Moreover, Cheyenne, Wyoming is home to Frontier Days. History also had its impact on it: Wyoming was home to the first paid rodeo nationwide. Rugby has become very popular in the state but it just can't surpass the popularity of rodeo in the state.

Yes, that was really too easy. If you had offered flyfishing, hunting, and mountain biking as the other sports, it might have been tougher.

If you want to see the Daddy of 'em All, come to Cheyenne during the last full week of July and see why Rodeo is the state sport of Wyoming. Frontier Days is the worlds largest outdoor rodeo (outdoors is the way all rodeo ought to be) as well as the richest professional rodeo anywhere. This is the one where the cowboys want to come. The buckle for champion is valuable enough, but the payout can keep you going for the rest of the season. By the way, no one gets rich on the rodeo circuit, even the promoters! Cheyenne Frontier Days is run 100% by volunteers.
Further, when you watch what the cowboys go through, you realize that the bulls, steers, calves and broncs aren't the ones who suffer. That's why PETA stays away!
Note to Mark Ann Dubaz: Barrel Riding is for the ladies only. If you want to see a man's sport, try wild horse racing. Three man teams have to bit and saddle a wild horse (which is blindfolded prior to the start of the race) then one of the team has to ride the horse -- in the right direction -- around the track and finish the race ahead of the other teams (normally four teams at the time). This is the last event of each day, so the race is started with arial bombs. The noise, the yelling of the crowd in the grandstands, and all the other chaos make the horses quite skittish. I've seen tramplings, broken arms, and collarbones as well as ribs and legs, dislocated shoulders and more. Makes Barrel Racing sissy stuff.
