What is true of Italian female serial killer Leonarda CiancIulli?
Leonarda Cianciulli was a notorious Italian serial killer, who was known for rendering her victims into soap. She had a total of 17 pregnancies, of which three ended in miscarriage, ten died young and only four survived to adulthood.
Due to these tragedies, she lost her mental balance and developed a belief that human sacrifices would keep her remaining children alive. She went on to murder a total of three women, whose corpses she rendered into soap and whose blood she used to make tea cakes.
She was eventually caught in 1940. The Italian criminal code did not recognize the death penalty on civilian crimes, so she was sentenced to 30 years in prison and three years in a criminal asylum.
She passed away 15th October, 1970, of cerebral hemorrhage, while she was still in the asylum. She was 79 years old
