What item was not left on the moon by U.S. astronauts?
More than one hundred different items have been left on the moon by astronauts! A telescope, however, is one item that has not been left behind by U. S. astronauts yet. Some of the items actually discarded on the surface of the moon include: a commemorative plaque, a gold replica of an olive branch, moon boots, cameras, urine containers, air-sickness bags and golf balls.

would be the most obvious tool after a shovel.

Why? Because we can. Why go to the top of Everest? Why go to the Mariana Trench? Why go to Antarctica? Why go to Camden, NJ? We are explorers by nature and venturing outward is WHAT we do. Space exploration is not a waste by any and every stretch of the imagination. Everyone is entitled to an opinion on whether money can be used for better things, but that is an age old argument beyond the space program. And those who say we have never been to the moon are pathetic and likely just trying to be contrary. They are part of the weak minded but strong in their convictions conspiracy theorists who won't believe in anything positive.

Someone did check out what was left on the moon! There was a gold plated telescope left on the moon along with a whole heap of garbage and equipment they used and didn't bring back.
