A “grimoire” is a magic textbook, a how-to about magical objects, spells, charms, summoning, and similar matters. “The Grand Grimoire” purportedly teaches the reader how to summon and control a demon, make a deal with Lucifer, and perform other spells and rites.

The author of the book—also titled “The Red Dragon” and “The Gospel of Satan”—is Antonio Del Rabina, who probably wrote it in the early 1800’s. Del Rabina supposedly gathered the information for the book from the writings of King Solomon.

The original book has two volumes. The first deals with summoning and controlling a demon by fashioning objects like amulets and making a deal with the Devil.

The second has either two parts. The “Sanctum Regnum” tells demon summoners how to forge an agreement with a demon to avoid having to use tools to control it, at the risk of relying on the demon. The second part is “Secrets, de L'Art Magique du Grand Grimoire”, or “Secrets, of the magic art of the Grand Grimoire”, which allows the demon summoner to use other, smaller spells and rituals after performing the original Book One ritual.

A few editions of the Grand Grimoire have another section, between the two major parts of Volume Two, called “Le Secret Magique, où le Grand Art de pouvoir parler aux Morts”, literally “The Grand Art of being able to speaking with the dead” or necromancy, and is sometimes referred to as “The Magic Secret”.

Paperback and hardback editions are available, as is a free online pdf.
