What kind of car does Axel Foley drive in the film "Beverly Hills Cop"?
In the 1984 movie "Beverly Hills Cop," a 1970 Chevrolet Nova is Axel Foley’s (Eddie Murphy's) car. He is first seen driving it in Detroit. Foley is then seen driving it in Beverly Hills on his way to find out why his friend was killed. It is involved in a couple of humorous moments as it is so out of place in Beverly Hills.
A 1981 Chevrolet Impala is the car used by the Beverly Hills Police Department. Axel Foley was picked up in one of these cars after he went to Victor Maitland’s (Steven Berkoff) office. At the end of the movie several Beverly Hills Police Department cars are seen entering Victor Maitland’s property.
Additionally, in the film Detective Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and Sergeant John Taggart (John Ashton) use a 1983 Mercury Marquis. At the hotel where Axel is staying, he puts several bananas in the car’s tailpipe so Rosewood and Taggart can’t follow him. This car is seen throughout the entire movie.
Other cars also used in this movie include: 1982 Plymouth Gran Fury, 1980 GMC Astro 95, 1977 Plymouth Fury, 1984 Mercedes-Benz 500 SEL, and 1980 Mercedes-Benz 450 SL. The use of a Ford Torino however never occurs.
Regarding the movie, "Beverly Hills Cop" is an action-comedy film. When his friend is murdered Detroit police detective Axel Foley heads off to Beverly Hills, CA under the auspices of a vacation to find those responsible. Lieutenant Bogomil of the Beverly Hills Police Department does not trust Foley, and hinders his search.
