This commercial was for Wisk detergent, and it claimed that it not only got out ring around the collar, but prevented it from coming back. So many people that were around and old enough to remember the 1970s, no doubt truly know about this “Ring-Around-The-Collar” commercial. This was the one where the husband’s white shirts are mocking the mortified housewife with the sing-song chant, “Ring-around-the-collar, RING-AROUND-THE-COLLAR!” The poor woman could not at that point look any more horrified.

The U.S. public did not know if the commercial was true or not. A good number of consumers said that it cost too much money, and refused to buy the stuff (Wisk detergent). A 50 ounce bottle of Wisk can now cost about $16.00 dollars. Without any annual inflation from 1970 to 2017, the same 50 ounce bottle of Wisk detergent would have cost about $3.00 dollar in the 70s.
