What Native American nation located in parts of Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah occupies the largest designated reservation in area?
The area, occupied by the Navajo Nation, covers 27,425 square miles (71,000 km2) and is located in different small parts of three states: Arizona, New Mexico and Utah. The nation is officially considered a sovereign Native-American nation, which is governed in agreements with the Congress. The Navajo Nation occupies the largest area than any other US tribe does. Different institutions are active on the territory of the tribe, such as health services, local educational trusts, an executive office and others.

The first code talkers who served during WW2 were Navaho from this part of the country. > CODE TALKER < Chester Nez with Judith Schiess Avila, the first and only memoir by one of the original Navajo code talkers of WWII.

Yeah, I'm part Cherokee too and all American Indians got shafted. Beware of free blankets with the 'US' logo.

They spoke in their native tongue. The Japanese never broke the code. Navaho is the most difficult language in the world to learn.

Janice Kernal I have to agree with y'all Folks, here other races talk about what has been done to them, they need to see what was done to the Indian's, the Government took their land away, and put them on Reservations!!! That's my opinion, what ever it's worth!!

Lydia Coutts, I worked for and retired from the Bureau of Indian Affairs at Fort Apache (yes, it is real and not just a movie title). The White Mountain Apache have an enormous and extremely beautiful mountainous reservation with large timber stands, elk hunting, fishing, ski resort, casino, etc. I worked with Navajo, Apache, and Hopi mostly. My husband is a bonafide card carrying member of the Sioux Tribe. The federal government gives millions of tax dollars to the various tribes/reservations annually through contracts and grants (Self Determination Act). This money is used to provide tribal services (which the tribe manages and executes) and is monitored by the federal government. Why is it monitored?? Because unfortunately, there is rampant corruption in some tribal government just as there is in federal government. Some tribes have managed to take the federal pressure off by actually being responsible for using those funds as intended. This is determined by the annual report the tribe submits to the BIA. Others, however, have a habit of putting the money in a "general fund" and cannot account for how the money is spent. The tax dollars are for things such as education, social services, tribal courts, law enforcement, etc. Native Americans do not live in tee-pee's, wiki's or cliff dwellings any more. They have houses, schools, tribal administrative buildings, churches, and even prisons on their reservations. I am over simplifying things but I hope you get the gist of what I am trying to relay.

Dot McGhghy, Not entirely certain but I think I get some of your meaning. So difficult to comprehend rules and laws which develop over time as to who was first and who has rights to a piece of this earth. The American Indian plight is a tragic one, and repeated elsewhere around the globe and over the past eons. Certainly they are near or at the top of the list of displaced people's - but it is quite evident from human history that this happens with high frequency and not only in the North American continent. We humans are good at this type of domination.

You have to live in the Century you are born in. Sustaining the preneolithic era into perpetuity as not going to work.

The US govt. unleashed a holocaust on the Native Americans. Not content with killing they kidnaped Native kids, forced them to cut off their hair, forbade them to speak their mother tounge and forced them to wear white man clothing. Don't ever think the Nazis were the only ones who made concentration camps. We still have our own. They are called RESERVTIONS!! Am proud to be part Taino Indian.

One important point. There are no native americans. Those we call native americans came from Asia.
