What originally happened to the evil queen in "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs"?
According to the Brothers Grimm, when the evil queen tells the huntsman to kill Snow White, she wants proof. She tells him to bring back the girl's heart and liver. He brings back the organs of a boar instead, which the queen eats.
The queen tries to kill Snow White three times. First, she sells Snow White a magic corset that keeps getting tighter, suffocating her. The dwarfs cut the laces when they get home, saving her. Then, she sells her a poisoned comb. Again, the dwarfs save her, taking the comb out of her hair. She finally succeeds with the apple.
Finding the princess in a coffin, the prince does not kiss her; he just wants to take her home. As the servants carry her, the coffin is shaken, dislodging the apple in her throat.
Snow White spots the queen at her wedding to the prince and tells him. He then has the queen captured and forced into red-hot iron shoes, to dance until she dies.
Many Disney fairytales have been altered from their original form. This was to make them more child-friendly, as the Brothers Grimm certainly lived up to their name - their stories were definitely grim.
Jacob Grimm (1785-1863) and Wilhelm Grimm (1786-1859), brothers, were German academics, cultural researchers, and authors. Together they collected German and European folk tales, many being oral tales.
Many different cultures have stories with the same plot. A book called "Snow White Around the World" has tales from Germany, Albania, Turkey, and Mozambique.
