Monstera deliciosa, Swiss Cheese Plant or Fruit Salad Plant is a member of the Araceae family of plants. Native to tropical forests in the south of Mexico through to Panama, it has also been introduced to other tropical areas including Hawaii, the Seychelles and Australia. A robust plant, it has become somewhat invasive in some areas.

The plant produces a fruit which takes longer than a year to reach maturity. In Australia, the fruit reaches maturity in March, so, in late summer. The fruit shows signs of ripening by yellowing. The starch which is stored in the green fruit is converted into sugar, giving it its sweet flavour. As the fruit continues to ripen, there is a fairly strong, though not unpleasant odor. The smell has been compared to a mix between a pineapple and a banana, however, the taste could well be likened to that of several fruits including passionfruit - hence it being called Fruit Salad Plant.
