What treaty ended the American Revolution?

The Treaty of Paris, signed in Paris by representatives of King George III of Great Britain and representatives of the United States of America on September 3, 1783, ended the American Revolutionary War. The treaty set the boundaries between the British Empire in North America and the United States, on lines "exceedingly generous" to the latter. Details included fishing rights and restoration of property and prisoners of war.

This treaty and the separate peace treaties between Great Britain and the nations that supported the American cause — France, Spain, and the Dutch Republic — are known collectively as the Peace of Paris. Only Article 1 of the treaty, which acknowledges the United States' existence as free sovereign and independent states, remains in force.

Todd, they may have referred to it in the manner you suggest because later, another “Treaty of Versailles”, superseded the 18th Century one. That “Treaty of Versailles” ended World War One. It’s provisions penalizing Germany, were often cited by Adolph Hitler, before and during his rise to power. He used those provisions in his speeches to whip German crowds into a lather. Breaking many of those provisions highlighted his early years in power. Carroll Price, Interesting observation. I can see how the GOP has evolved then. They're now the opposite of what they once were. Same goes for the Blues. They were the party of slavery, but now the party of civil rights. What changes we have seen over the years!

Thought it was the Treaty of Versailles. Signed in Paris. (I did answer Peace of Paris.) Carroll Price, The treaty was signed long before the States were governed by the Constitution. They were under the Articles of Confederation and, thus, an entirely different situation, which failed to thrive.

Take note that England signed the peace treaty with EACH OF THE STATES then comprising the united States (plural term). Meaning that the united States at the time consisted of sveral independent sovereign States united under a central government. With this original form of government remaining in place until Lincoln and his radical Republicans suceeded in their coup to destroy it by reducing the once sovereign States into nothing more than provinces being ruled over by a cetralized, all-powerful, despotic government that remains in place to this day.
