The Red-whiskered Bulbul (Pycnonotus jocosus) is a sprightly and commonly found garden songbird that likes urban gardens, scrublands found on the outskirts of cities of Asia. This bird is often traded in India as a pet bird. Its conservation status is termed under 'Least Concern' but its numbers are said to be decreasing.

A slender medium-sized bird (20 cm or 7.9 in), it is dark brown above, white below, with a conspicuous white patch on the cheeks and an elegant black crest. It has crimson tufts below the eye, a crimson red vent (under tail coverts), a black beak, and legs.

The bird’s diet consists of mostly fruits and insects. They are always found in pairs or in small groups flitting around in trees. In India, they breed throughout the year and build an open cup nest of rootlets, bark, and leaves, lined with soft fiber. Both birds incubate the eggs and care for the young birds. The eggs are pale pink, streaked, and spotted with shades of red. Two or three broods are normally reared in a season.
