What type of car is mentioned in the Eagles' song "Hotel California"?
First recorded in 1976 by the American rock band the Eagles, the song "Hotel California" was created by Don Felder (music), Don Henley, and Glenn Frey (lyrics). Additionally, Joe Walsh came up with the dual-guitar descending arpeggio array that ends the song: he did not, however, get writing credits. In the original recording of the song, it features Henley singing the lead vocals, and concludes with an electric guitar solo performed by both Walsh and Felder, in which they both take turns of playing lead before harmonizing and playing the aforementioned arpeggio towards the fade out at the end.
In this particular song. the lyrics also incorporate the words "Her mind is Tiffany-twisted, she got the Mercedes bends / She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys / That she calls friends".
Regarding these lyrics, Henley has said that he intentionally wrote "Mercedes bends" and not "Mercedes Benz". The woman's mind has been "twisted" by Tiffany, the super-expensive jewelry store with the iconic blue-green boxes. It's known Tiffany is a total status symbol for the wealthy. Next, she gets a case of "the bends", known as decompression sickness. One gets the bends if he or she should surface too fast while scuba diving. Here, the speaker is making a clever pun: Her case of the bends is caused by the expensive car, the Mercedes Benz. Basically, her whole worldview is warped by money.
This song is considered the best known recording by the Eagles. It has been covered by many artists.
