Marmalade sandwiches are Paddington Bear's favourite food. He was taught how to make them by his Aunt Lucy when he lived in the jungles of 'Darkest Peru'. His Uncle Pastuzo told him to always keep a marmalade sandwich under his hat in case of emergency.

Paddington Bear is a fictional character developed by children's writer Michael Bond (1926-2017). He first appeared on 13th October 1958 and was the subject of over 20 books, which have sold 30 million copies worldwide. Paddington has also been the star of television series and films. He is a kind and friendly bear who travelled from Darkest Peru to London after the death of his uncle. He is taken care of by the Brown family and always wears his signature blue duffle coat and red hat.

According to the 2014 film 'Paddington', marmalade was first introduced to the bears of Darkest Peru by a fictional British explorer Montgomery Clyde. He gave the bears a recipe for marmalade and it soon became the bears' favourite food. They believed 'just one sandwich contains all the vitamins and minerals a bear needs for the whole day'.

Paddington took several jars of marmalade in his suitcase for his journey to London. When Paddington met the Browns, he introduced the marmalade recipe, which they loved. Marmalade sandwiches also saved Paddington in the film 'Paddington 2' (2017), when he shoved one in the mouth of a character who was threatening him. His tormentor loved the taste and changed his attitude towards Paddington.
