What was the first album to be released in the United States on Led Zeppelin's Swan Song record label?
Swan Song Records was a record label that was launched by the English rock band Led Zeppelin on 10 May 1974. Its first record release in the US was the self-titled album, "Bad Company" on 26 June 1974. The first UK release for Swan Song was "Silk Torpedo" by the Pretty Things on 1 November 1974.
It was overseen by Led Zeppelin's manager Peter Grant (5 April 1935 – 21 November 1995) and was a vehicle for the band to promote its own products as well as sign artists who found it difficult to win contracts with other major labels.
By April 1975, Swan Song had four albums ("Bad Company", "Silk Torpedo", "Physical Graffiti", and "Suicide Sal") in the "Billboard" Top 200 chart.
Artists that released material on the Swan Song label included Led Zeppelin itself, Bad Company, Pretty Things, Dave Edmunds, Mirabai, Maggie Bell, Detective, and Sad Café, among others.
The company logo, designed by Hipgnosis and illustrated by Joe Petagno (born January 1, 1948), was based on "Evening also called The Fall of Day" (1869) by painter William Rimmer (20 February 1816 – 20 August 1879).
Swan Song ceased operations in October 1983 due to the break-up of Led Zeppelin and Peter Grant's health problems, and now exists only to reissue previously released material, with the exception of a 2012 resurrection when Led Zeppelin released the live "Celebration Day" to document their 2007 one-off reunion concert.
