In 1984, the video of the Cars' "You Might Think" won the first MTV Video Music Award for Video of The Year. They were the first group/band to win the award, which has since been presented to just 13 bands/groups in the 33-year history of the honor.

The song was the hit single from The Cars' fifth studio album Heartbreak City.

The video itself was one of the land-breakers in the video music phenomenon that swept the 1980s. It was one of the first to use computer graphics. The video featured the band's lead singer, Ric Ocasek and model Susan Gallagher in a series of encounters. Through the use of the computer, Ocasek appeared in a bathroom mirror, in a submarine in Gallagher's bathtub, in her mouth, as a fly and as King Kong swatting airplanes atop the Empire State Building among other things.

The video was also nominated in five other categories including best special effects, best art direction, viewer's choice, best concept video, and most experimental video.

The video cost $80,000 to produce. This was more than triple the average budget for a video at the time.

The Cars were formed in Boston in 1976 and disbanded in 1988. The living original members of the band got back together in 2010 and made the album "Move Like This."

The Cars were nominated for the induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.
