Operation Chromite was the operational name for the Battle of Inchon on the Korean peninsula. The amphibious invasion operation began on 15 Sep 1950 and ended on the 19th of the same month. The operation involved 75,000 troops and 261 naval vessels under the leadership of US General of the Army D. MacArthur.

The operational objectives were threefold. First was the successful recapture of the South Korean capital Seoul. The second was to disrupt the support and supply elements of the North Korean elements that were in support of the attack along the Pusan Perimeter. The third was to catch the North Korean combat elements between the UN forces along the Pusan Perimeter.

Seoul was recaptured two weeks later. Ninety percent of the North's support to their southern elements were either destroyed or captured. The combat elements caught between the forces of the 8th Marines and MacArthur's X Corps resulted in the killing or capture of about 41,000 North Korean troops.
