Charles and Deborah's son in the 1994 film "Heavenly Creatures" is Diello. Charles was the imaginary monarch of Borovnia. Pauline Parker (Melanie Lynskey) occasionally adopts his identity when she is in the real world. As Charles, Pauline wrote florid love letters to Deborah (a.k.a. Juliet Hulme played by Kate Winslet) when the girls are separated by Juliet's confinement in the TB sanatorium.

In the film, Deborah (Juliet) give birth to Diello (a cushion), assisted by Charles (Pauline), who comments: "You're such an incredible woman, Deborah!"

In Pauline's visions of Borovnia, Diello is a plasticine figure. She says, "He clearly has intense, scowling features and the angry voice of a young teen who is like a svelte Orson Welles".
