In the 1994 film "The Mask", timid bank clerk Stanley Ipkiss (Jim Carrey) discovers a magical mask containing the spirit of the Norse god Loki. When he uses the mask, his entire life changes. While wearing the mask, Ipkiss becomes a supernatural playboy exuding charm and confidence, which allows him to catch the eye of local nightclub singer Tina Carlyle (Cameron Diaz).

Unfortunately, under the mask's influence, Ipkiss also robs a bank. This angers junior crime lord Dorian Tyrell (Peter Greene), whose goons get blamed for the heist performed by Ipkiss. Ipkiss will end up battling the gangsters who seek the mask's powers.

This is an early film for Carrey and it really got his career off the ground. Carrey's facial expressions and unique movements are invaluable assets for his performance in the role. Carrey told film critics that he characterized Stanley after his own father: "a nice guy, just trying to get by".
