Diego Armando Maradona Franco (October 30, 1960 in Lanús; November 25, 2020 in Tigre) was an Argentine football player and coach.

Maradona is one of the "legends of world football" and is considered one of the best football players in history. He began his career at the age of 15 with Argentinos Juniors before moving to Boca Juniors and winning the Argentine league title in 1981. The "Golden Boy" (El Pibe de Oro) then moved to Europe to play for FC Barcelona for a record transfer fee. There, he celebrated only one important title, the 1983 Copa del Rey. Plagued by illness and injuries, he was forced to leave the club after just two years due to numerous scandals. He then joined SSC Napoli, again for a record transfer fee.

The 1979 World Youth Champion captained the Argentine national team to victory in Mexico in 1986, winning their second World Cup after 1978. In the quarterfinals, the 25-year-old scored two of the most famous goals in football history within four minutes of a 2-1 victory against England. He first illegally used his hand, the "Hand of God," to tip a high ball into the net and then, after a 60-meter dribble, scored the World Cup goal of the century. Maradona participated in four World Cups (1982, 1986, 1990, 1994) and scored 34 goals in 91 international matches.
