Coke has always been brown. Caramel was originally used for coloring, and though the (secret) formula has changed over the years, caramel, which imparts the brown color we know, is still used to give the cola its appearance.
There is currently an urban legend stating Coca-Cola's color was originally green, and this is incorrect. The company at one time used green bottles, and thus the idea was started. The product has always had its standard brown color.
What was the original color of Coca-Cola?

I thought Coca-Cola was green, too, from the caffeine, like Mountain Dew. So that actually makes Coke GREEN anyway, because caramel is used as FOOD COLORING, thus, the color of Coke is a FAKE BROWN because of artificial coloring. We've been duped again! I read in a scientific journal, and also a commercial industry history book a few interesting facts about Coca-Cola, that Coka-Cola started as a MEDICATION FOR HEADACHE RELIEF, but the recipe was accidentally mixed with SPARKLING WATER instead of regular water, which gave it a great taste, and people began drinking it in large quantities as a refreshing beverage instead of as a medication, yet they never overdosed from taking too much of it. This is why the ingredients are "secret" because what company would admit that their product that has gone relatively unchanged in over 100 years USED to be sold only at pharmacies and prescribed by their doctor? This is also a reason why you feel so refreshed and clear-headed after you drink Coca-Cola, because it is intended to soothe and relieve pressure in the noggin! I'm not sure if cocaine was really ever an ingredient, but if it was, that would explain why people became addicted to it and drank so much of it. Same thing as Pepto-Bismol. That pink stuff tastes great! So do Flintstones Vitamins. My mom actually admitted to me that when she was a kid, she drank so much Coca-Cola, she became addicted to it, and it was hard for her to break the habit. I never saw her drink any brand of soda when I was young because she said that she was afraid she was going to get hooked on it again. But she never told me that Coca-Cola was made out of cocaine. All I can say is that caffeine is addictive, as is coffee and many other products, and there are no narcotics in coffee or any other products that make you feel good like that. So if it's only caffeine and not cocaine, go right ahead and knock yourself out and drink a gallon of Coke a day and live the rest of your life completely headache-free.

I am sooooooooooooo embarrassed! I might have know that it was always brown because I always thought that it was always brown but when green was one of the colors listed, I thought that maybe at one time Coca-Cola might have been green and I do know that dark green has always been the color of the bottles at least the glass bottles have always been green. I know that it could never have been blue or white and for all I know, Pepsi has always been brown too. I think it is safe to say that this was a very good TRICK question.

The formula for "Coca-Cola" has always been "brown" since it was started in 1886. The only thing that was changed about "Coca-Cola" was back during the late 1970's or early 1980's the company decided to tamper with the original formula, to make what was called "sweet" Coca-Cola. That didn't sell well with the general public.

But the bottles in the picture were yellow. Man, I like Pepsi anyway. What happened to RC cola? Those new soda dispenser machines are pretty cool. They did take out the cocain though.
