What was the prototype name of the Internet?

The Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET), the predecessor of the Internet, was a pioneering long-haul network funded by the U.S. Department of Defense’s Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA). It served as the test bed for many fields of internetworking technology development and testing, and acted as the basis during the development of the Internet. TCP/IP technologies became the technical foundation of the Internet.

lorriefiel, I disagree, when I use my kindle , you can find out how many pages the book has. I also love the feel of a book in your hands, but the Kindle is perfect for me when I travel.

In the late 70s, I worked operating a DEC 1170. This was a room sized computer system. I recall being impressed with DEC's remote diagnostics - DEC could sign on from hundreds of miles away (using a conventional rotary phone handset in a Modem cradle) and analyze system - how far we have come!

I will never have a chance to travel. Through the Internet I have met wonderful people and they have shone me even more amazing things. I am glad I live in a time to experience so much.

I prefer reading books to using an e reader. I guess I like the tactile element but I also find it easier since I like to see how many pages a book has and be able to read the end notes as I go. Difficult to do that with a Kindle.

When the "grid" goes down the end of the world, as we know it, will begin. Within two weeks we will revert to a savage society. This week i have read a detective story where one of the characters have a travel agecy named World Wide Wenner. The book is written in the 1960s. Interesting because World Wide Web was not invented until 1990.
