Kinder Surprise, also known as Kinder Egg or Kinder Surprise Egg, is a candy manufactured by the Italian company Ferrero since 1974. It was co-created by Michele Ferrero and William Salice, and is one of several candies sold under the Kinder brand. Each chocolate egg surrounds a plastic capsule that contains a small toy. Kinder Surprise was originally created with children in mind, replicating an Italian Easter family tradition in which adults give children large chocolate eggs with a toy inside. However, Kinder Surprise toys have become collectible for adults as well. Since 1974, 30 billion Kinder Surprise eggs have been sold worldwide.

The egg has been banned in America since its inception because of a 1938 FDA regulation that prohibits the selling of lollies that contains “non-nutritive objects” (aka a choking hazard).
Since the Kinder is a chocolate egg that contains a toy, it violates the regulation.

I can explain that for you.
The gun lobby owns more Congressmen and Congresswomen than the candy industry does.
Candy with toys in it gets banned for the choking hazard it is, but the gun lobby waves money around for reelection funds and Congress caves in for cash. 70-80% of Americans favor stricter gun control, but Congress is too self-serving to give their constituency what they really want.
It doesn't make it right, but that's the straight dope. I hope that helps you understand the corruption in our political system.

Wrong again, it was first manufactured in Italy in 1972 and launched in the UK in 1974.
For some reason it is banned in the US as dangerous, yet guns are not.
