When did Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee surrender his army to Union Gen. Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Court House in Virginia?
This is one of the major historical events in the American history since it put an end to a bloody Civil War, which claimed the lives of thousands of people.
At Appomattox, Virginia Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered his 28,000 troops to Union General Ulysses S. Grant. Made to leave the Confederate capital of Richmond, blocked from joining the remaining Confederate force in North Carolina, and harassed constantly by Union cavalry, Lee had no opportunity to continue the struggle.
Have you remembered the date of this significant historical event? Or was it a good guess?

That's good the war ended, because we shouldn't be at war with one another.

David Mangum First his math is correct it was 151 years ago so his history is right and secondly hillary hasnt been sued for fraud for a scam universty she ran or trying to get the public to assassinate her opponets like trump has.
Trump has hired workers and refused to pay because he could and then he talks about creating jobs in america yet trump clothing is made in china and trump vodka is made overseas. He has filed bankruptcy to avoid paying debts and yet he will balance our countries budget when he couldnt balance his own?
Try studying poltics dummy and some math and history wouldnt hurt either!

Today, 151 years later, we still have America haters flying that hateful confederate flag. Of course, their message is clear. And Trump is blowing the dog whistle they want to hear.

Powell, I came from here in America, you dupe. Native born. Want to talk about rabble rousers? This week we saw one candidate for president hurl a veiled threat at the other. That is the kind of activity from Trump my post was addressing.

Dennis Ward, your definition of 'traitor' obviously bears no resemblance to that of any respected dictionary. You could not even be bothered to state your case on Obama or Hillary. Being clueless and having no rational basis for your opinions are signs you are a peabrain.

Chris Braun Incorrect, There was only one country and an attempted revolt. The revolt was quashed, so, there was only ever ONE country. Rebels always claim they are a country but unless they win they are not; which, is why we are a country even though we revolted.
Printing fake currency and electing a fake president while declaring themselves independent does not make them a country just simply traitors commiting treason. No state can leave the union, so, any state trying to form its own country is invalid as it can not leave the union. If a state wants to leave the union they must get congress to eject them from the union and it can only do so with the permision of the state they wish to eject.

We do indeed deserve a qualified president like Hillary. Although I do wish she was further to the left. Never Trump... If he is the answer, we might as well plow civilization under.

I've lived only 5 minutes away from Appomattox my entire life. I even live on former war grounds. My father and uncle found hundreds of Civil War bullets in my grandmother's yard. Robert E. Lee is my cousin. Virtually every school, street, and even our local Military base was named after him. Virginia has basically erased him from history, renaming everything named after him including Ft. Lee. His statue on Monument Avenue was the site of extreme vandalism and riots. They took down his statue and put one up of Arthur Ashe. Every single Confederate statue on Monument Avenue has been removed. It is hardly Monument Avenue anymore, but more like a very long street with historic homes.

1875 and 1880? If the war wasn't over by 1865, Booth would've had no motive to shoot Lincoln.

mkrash, I chose 1864, unable to fathom that the assassination would follow that closely. I should have chosen 1865, because I knew that was when the war ended. Christine, James' wife

In one of Fate's ironies, the first major battle of the war was in Wilmer McLean's front yard in Manassas. After the devastation of the battle, he moved his family to Appomattox Courthouse to escape the war, and the last major confrontation of the war took place in Wilmer McLean's front parlor.

Surrendering the Army of Northern Virginia to Union General Robert E. Lee precipitated the end of the war, but the surrender did not end the war.

Michael Patrick Burgus, I live in the south and I’ve never, no not once, encountered anyone who supported the kkk. I don’t know people who hate based on race. No one I’ve ever known has supported the institution of slavery. Many people have a “confederate flag”. To them it doesn’t represent hate or bigotry, it represents the rights of states. Ben Totuous thinks he knows all, but he’s probably never actually spoken to a person from anywhere south of New York.

Six days later on April 14, 1865 Abraham Lincoln was shot. It seems like Abe was made a sacrificial offering for the reconciliation of the United States. Truly a Great Man.
