Although the fighting stopped with the armistice in 1918, World War I continued financially for Germany for another 92 years.

In 1919, Germany grudgingly signed the Versailles Treaty, which not only forced Germany to take full responsibility for the damage caused during World War I, it also forced Germany to pay huge sums of money in reparations payments.

The initial sum of money was 226 billion Reichsmarks, which was later reduced to a still unmanageable 132 billion Reichsmarks. These reparations payments nearly bankrupted Germany in the 1920s and led to the rise of the Nazis in Germany in the 1930s.

On Sunday, October 3, 2010, the last reparation payment was paid and Germany is finally done with World War I.
