The International Day for Monuments and Sites, also known as "World Heritage Day", is an international observance held globally on 18 April every year. All over the world this day is celebrated differently with visits to monuments and heritage sites, conferences, round tables and newspaper articles. The day was first observed in 1983 by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). It gained recognition as a world event during the 22nd General Conference of UNESCO.

The aim in celebrating this day is to spread awareness about the cultural heritage and diversity on the planet. The theme for "World Heritage Day 2022" is "Heritage and Climate" to promote conservation research and employ sustainable strategies to protect heritage sites.The day also intends to recognize the efforts of all people like architects, engineers, geographers, artists and archeologists, who contribute towards conserving world cultural and natural heritage.

UNESCO has designated a total of 1155 monuments in 167 countries as UNESCO world heritage sites. The day is celebrated to convey an important message to the younger generations to carry forward our legacy and safeguard our culture.
