When thirsty, how do pigeons drink?
Many people take delight in watching pigeons bathe themselves in back gardens, but what many don’t know is that pigeons also have a very unique way of drinking water. Whilst most birds lack the ability of sucking liquids into their throats, thereby forcing them to fill their beaks with water and tilting their heads in order for the water to fall down their throats, pigeons and doves do possess this ability and are able to drink water without raising their heads.
A pigeon needs water for digestion and processing of food. Per day, a pigeon drinks around 50 ml of water. If there are young to feed, this will double. The best thing is to give your pigeon fresh tap water every day.
