When was the first chocolate bar made?
It's unbelievable, but the secret of a chocolate bar was discovered only in 1847. Before that time, people knew only the recipe of the chocolate paste. The first chocolate factories appeared when the technology of candy bar making was finally developed. And you know what - the product is still very popular among children and adults!

Strange how there is no evidence anywhere about Aztecs making a chocolate bar.

The first chocolate bar was made by J Dry and Sons of Bristol, England. They moved the production out of the city to Keynsham (where I live) in 1935. Frys were bought by Cadbury's and Cadburys planned to close the plant in 2007 after a EU grant was given to Cadburys to move production to Poland. After much wrangling (including a promise to reverse the decision to close the plant), Cadburys were sold to Kraft who promptly closed the plant as most of the machinery had already moved to Poland. It is therefore little surprise that the people of Keynsham overwhelmingly voted to leave the EU.
If you ever had a Fry's Chocolate Cream Bar, Double Decker, Dairy Milk, Chocolate Buttons, Creme Eggs, Mini Eggs, Chomp or Crunchie in Britain prior to 2011, it was made in Keynsham

Not a very good or thorough explanation of the answer. I am surprised this was not rejected.

Chocolate was known for centuries by native Americans. One can still buy it in blocks to make drinks, even in NZ.

Perry Gaspar, No. The Aztecs valued chocolate for medical purposes and it was usually drunk, not solid.

The Aztecs were the first to convert cocao beans to a powder but they only used it to drink. It was this powder form that spread to the rest of the Americas and Europe. But solid chocolate blocks didn't appear until 1847, made by Frys of England.

it was dr Hans Sloane who gave his name to Sloane Square that developed the process fo making solid sweetened chocolate and gave the process to either Cadbury or Fry without charge and he was from the 18th century, not the 19th
