The Superstition mountain range is located just east of Phoenix, Arizona. The range is federally designated as the Superstition Wilderness Area. The area is 159,757 acres and it was established by the U.S. Government in 1939.

The legend of the Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine, located in the Superstition Mountains, started when Jacob Waltz died in 1891. Waltz "a German immigrant" was said to have found a mother lode of gold, but nobody since his death has ever found his mine. Apache Indians believe that a hole leading down to a lower world some would call Hell is located in the Superstition Mountains.

The Superstition Mountains are a popular destination for treasure hunters, hikers, & nature lovers.
