Mount Everest, also known in Nepal as "Sagarmāthā," and in Tibet as "Chomolungma," is the highest mountain on Earth, with its peak measuring 8,848 meters (29,029 feet) above sea level. It is located in the Mahalangur section of the Himalayas. Many people have died trying to reach the top, and their corpses have been left along the way, due to the difficulty of removing them.

Sometimes Mauna Kea in Hawaii is known as the tallest mountain, since its slope from its base measures 10,200 m (33,464 ft), but its peak is only 4,205 m (13,796 ft) above sea level.
