Where was kissing made illegal in 1439?
On the 16th of July, 1439, the King Henry VI of England banned kissing! That was made not for the sake of modesty or morality: such a measure was assumed to stop the advance of plague in the kingdom. Anyway, it doesn't work: the new law existed only on the papers and the citizens gave it lip service.
What are your thoughts on this subject?

Mary Flood, Except that it wasn't anything to do with the plague - that occurred over 100 years previously and then again 200 years later. The ban was on 'ritual kissing and the kiss of peace.' Protestant churches did away with them as early reformists thought kissing would lead to other pleasures of the flesh.
