Where was Cornwall's Air Ambulance founded?

The village of Delabole, in north Cornwall, was formed from the merger of four hamlets in the early 20th century. they were, Delabole itself, Pengelly, Rockhead and Meadrose. For such a small place it has, remarkably, four claims to fame.

Firstly, it is the location of the oldest working slate quarry in England; Secondly, the quarry is the deepest in England and, indeed, was for some time the deepest in the world; Thirdly, it was the site of the first commercial wind farm in England; and, finally, was the birth place of the Cornwall Air Ambulance.

The Cornwall Air Ambulance is a dedicated helicopter emergency service for the region of Cornwall (including the Isles of Scilly). The helicopters fly about 700 missions per year, and have flown over 20,000 missions in total. When introduced on 1 April 1987, Cornwall's air ambulance was the first dedicated helicopter emergency medical service operational in the United Kingdom. The helicopters provide a swift response and access to isolated locations, such as beaches, cliff-tops and moorland areas, which are inaccessible by road. The two Air Ambulances are maintained by the Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust.
