The 2013 movie "American Hustle" follows the FBI sting of Abscam (ABSCAM) as a ring of corrupt politicians and businessmen primarily from, and representing, New Jersey constituents are nabbed. It is a black comedy crime film which was directed by David O. Russell. The screenplay was written by Eric Warren Singer and Russell. It was inspired by the FBI Abscam operation of the late 1970s and early 1980s. It stars Christian Bale as Irving Rosenfeld and Amy Adams as Sydney Prosser. They are two con-artists who are forced by an FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper) to set up an elaborate sting operation. Caught red-handed by DiMaso, Irv (who was involved in forgery and loan-sharking) and Sydney (who uses impersonation) are forced to work undercover. The sting is on corrupt politicians, including the mayor of Camden, NJ (Jeremy Renner). Jennifer Lawrence plays Rosalyn Rosenfeld. As Irv's wife, she is unpredictable and erratic. Her actions may be the ones to bring everyone's world crashing down.

The movie opened to praise for its screenplay and ensemble cast. It was able to receive 10 Oscar nominations at the 86th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actor (Bale), Best Actress (Adams), Best Supporting Actor (Cooper), and Best Supporting Actress (Lawrence). It did not win in any category. It earned a total worldwide of $251.2 million dollars and made a net profit of $27 million dollars, after all expenses were paid.
