In an unintentional dumb act, Jon Eric Hexum an American model and actor was killed on October 18, 1984 in Century City, California. The ruggedly handsome young man of Norwegian parentage was on the set of the CBS television series Cover Up. Hexum at the time was playing the male lead on the show. He died at age of 26 because of an accidental, self-inflicted, blank cartridge gunshot wound to the head.

While he was shooting the show, "Cover Up", Hexum became very bored during off camera break time. To entertain himself, Jon-Erik pointed a .44 magnum revolver filled with stage blank cartridges at his temple and said, “Let’s see if I’ve got one for me” and pulled the trigger. The paper wadding in the stage blank exploded from the gun and lodged in Jon-Erik’s head. A chunk of his skull the size of a quarter blew into his brain. After five hours of surgery, doctors declared him dead. His body was placed on life-support for four days while his organs were harvested for others.

Hexum was truly a rising Hollywood star that was knocking on super stardom’s door when he was tragically and suddenly killed.
