Which actor played Harry Dunne in the 1995 film 'Dumb and Dumber'?
'Dumb and Dumber' is a 1994 American comedy film about two dim-witted men from Providence, Rhode Island, who are both roommates and best friends. The two friends, Harry Dunne (Jeff Daniels) and Lloyd Christmas (Jim Carrey), set off on a long journey to Aspen, Colorado, to return a briefcase to its owner, not realising it was full of ransom money.
The film received very good reviews and was a box office success. Nearly ten years later, a prequel called 'Dumb and Dumberer' (2003) was released, followed by a sequel called 'Dumb and Dumber To' in 2014. Although 'Dumb and Dumber' did not win any major American film awards, readers of 'Total Film' magazine voted it the fifth greatest comedy film of all time in a poll conducted in 2000.
Nicolas Cage was the original choice for the role of Harry Dunne, but after he tried to negotiate a $2 million increase in his fee, the producers dropped him and signed Jeff Daniels instead. Born in 1955, Daniels had starred in a handful of minor films before starring in 'Dumb and Dumber', which was his first great success. He has since starred in several notable films, including '101 Dalmatians' (1996) and 'Steve Jobs' (2015), and television series such as 'The Newsroom' (2012-2014) and 'Godless' (2017).
In 2020, Daniels endorsed Joe Biden in the presidential election. He narrated a campaign ad for Biden titled 'America Needs Michigan'.
