Which actor purchased an Andy Warhol painting for nearly 4 million and sold it later for 23.5 million dollars?

The Andy Warhol painting of Elizabeth Taylor which Hugh Grant had been hanging in his home for six years. The actor himself bought the painting at auction in England for just $3.6 million. It was sold by Christie’s in New York, which presided over the sale in January 2021. The sale ensured Grant a nice profit of over 20 million dollars.

Hugh’s painting was one of 13 in a series Warhol painted of Elizabeth Taylor during the 1960s. The previous record for a piece from the series was $12.6 million, paid by jeweler Laurence Graff in May 2005.

The second sentence of the explanation is wrong. The reference clearly states that he was drunk and ordered an assistant to put in a bid. To his horror the assistant got the painting. He therefore had to pay up.
