Which actors became world-famous through the film "Lawrence of Arabia"?
"Lawrence of Arabia" is a 1962 film directed by David Lean and produced by Sam Spiegel, based on Thomas Edward Lawrence's autobiographical war memoir, Seven Pillars of Wisdom. This visually stunning desert epic brought international fame to its stars, Peter O'Toole and Omar Sharif, and won seven Academy Awards in 1963.
Originally, Montgomery Clift was slated to play Lawrence. However, Clift declined, and Marlon Brando and Albert Finney, incidentally a fellow student of O'Toole's at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, were considered. Producer Sam Spiegel then suggested the virtually unknown Peter O'Toole, whom he had met on the set of "The Day They Robbed the Bank of England." With this film, O'Toole launched his decades-long career as one of the leading character actors.
Anthony Quinn's nose was actually less prominent, so it had to be enlarged by makeup for the film.
On the film set, King Hussein of Jordan met his second wife, British film assistant Antoinette Avril Gardiner, during an inspection of his troops who were working as extras.
