The fortunate actress who played the role of 'Stands with a Fist' in the 1990 movie "Dances with Wolves" was Mary McDonnell. She was born in 1952 in Wilkes-Barre, PA and was named Mary Eileen McDonnell. It was almost two decades after working in theater stage plays that she had her breakthrough role in a Hollywood film. It came when she worked with Kevin Costner in "Dances with Wolves".
