Which American author was expelled from U.S. Military Academy at West Point?
It's not hard to believe that Edgar Allan Poe, author of “The Pit and the Pendulum” and other horror stories, went to the United States Military Academy at West Point, an institution conspicuously absent from the list of top party schools. Poe tried hard to get kicked out of West Point, and in 1831, he succeeded.
Poe was court martialed after he stopped going to class, parade, roll calls and chapel in January 1831. The following month, he was dismissed. Poe was formally tried at the U.S. Military Academy on charges of gross neglect of duty and disobedience of orders. He was found guilty of both charges and then discharged from the service.

I read Poe's foster father basically forced Poe to go to West Point as a last ditch effort to get Poe to live a more respectable and disciplined life. They had a very contentious and acrimonious relationship. Poe had the soul and personality of an artist. He never belonged at West Point.

Cedric Walters, I am surprised that I did not know this, I was recently told that the lead vocalist of a band named "Tool" also attended West Point and graduated. He is a 5' 2' white male who has quite a narcissistic personality, I have often wondered if any realistic books were written about West Point??
