Samuel Clemens (better known by his pen name Mark Twain) was born on November 30, 1835 and died on April 21, 1910. He was indeed born just after Halley's Comet appeared in 1835. He died of a heart attack one day after it appeared at its brightest in 1910.

Like any good journalist‚ Sam Clemens (Mark Twain) spent almost all of his life observing and reporting on his surroundings. In his books and novels, he provided images of the romantic‚ the real‚ the strengths and weaknesses of a rapidly changing world. By examining his life and the books that he wrote‚ we can see into the past, piecing together various events of the era and the responses to them.

Because of his works, William Faulkner (the 1949 Nobel Prize Laureate in Literature) called Twain "the father of American literature".
